Cause now I can sit through unbelievably mind-numbing exercises in self torture like this movie, and afterwards only feel stupid for having stayed until the stead of also having to feel I"ve had my pocket picked for the price of a ticket! It was nice b&w cinematography, but as far as I"m concerned, they could"ve left the camera trained on a static long shot of the seagulls hovering over the lighthouse, and it would"ve been a better movie. Great gift idea for the holidays: give the Blu-ray of this film to people you"d prefer to never have to see again, but that you"re too polite to actually come out and tell them how you me, they"ll get the message loud and clear.

The Lighthouse grabbed my attention since I saw the first Trailer, and I have been following this movie with great interest ever since, till I finally watched it my head is still "s an amazing piece of cinema, no doubt about acting is brilliant especially by Robert Pattinson, whom I have definitely become a fan of, and the incredible dialogue, following the language of the time extremely accurately, and both actors delivering the lines perfectly. The cinematography is gorgeous, the almost square aspect ratio aiding the claustrophobic feel of the entire thing. The direction is excellent, almost surgical, with not one unnecessary camera movement. This is an extremely unsettling, creepy movie, with an incredible music score to deepen the effect, with a very ambiguous story to boot, requiring multiple viewings. I love this movie, and it"s one of the best of the year, in my opinion... 9/10.

Not leaving the Theater after the first 15 minutes was really difficult. I"m trying to think of an adjective or noun that"s worse than dumb. The only thing positive that I can say about this movie was that the acting was phenomenal. They each portrayed ignorance and mental illness incredibly well. In "Once Upon a Time. in Hollywood" Leonardo DiCaprio and Pitt co-stars as struggling actor Rick Dalton and his stunt double Cliff Booth respectively, as they look for the next step in Dalton"s career (Booth follows his every step. A B-plot focuses on Dalton"s neighbor Sharon Tate (Robbie) mainly there - I believe - as a build up for her tragic fate. As always with Tarantino, every scene, every shot, every word (he is known for not encouraging improv) is carefully constructed down to every delicate detail, and it shows in the wonderful setting, memorable lines, and Easter eggs. What makes "Once Upon a Time. in Hollywood" from other entrees in his filmography is its lack of a clear plot; the film works as sort of a historic document of Hollywood back in the 60s, showcasing films and TV shows typical of that time. While I find it perfectly amusing to watch DiCaprio as Dalton prepare for the role of a crooked villain in a Spaghetti Western, some viewers might be discouraged, as Tarantino"s hallmark over-the-top gore action is saved for a short - yet intense - scene at the end of the feature. Talking about the ending, it is perhaps daring to change one of the world"s most famous criminal cases, the Tate/LaBianca murders, committed by members of Charles Manson"s "Family. But I think it"s wrapped up nicely, and surprisingly non-cynical for Tarantino, with Tate and her friends surviving, without ever facing their real life killers. And it"s not just the drawn on face tattoos (seriously) the pink haired girls nor the mandatory mohawked "toughs" nor even the cliche gunfight where the person with the glock outshooting the machine-gun and the inevitable bad guy switch. It"s so much more than that. This movie sucked on a molecular level. I see in some reviews here there"s apparently eye candy, but if want that I"d suggest YouTube or a streaming service where you can at least maybe be surprised, and you"re not forced to watch an hour knowing from the start absolutely EVERYTHING that"s going to happen. This is that bad video game movie with the alleged "A-lister" that the only question you"ll ask with any sincerity. is why? It"s not fun. It"s not relevant. There"s other options.
Don"t bother.

I didn"t realise that it was Samara Weaving playing gun-toting kick-ass chick Nix in Guns Akimbo until she screamed. that horrible, grating, warbling sound that has ground my gears in several of her previous movies. Of course, Weaving"s scream alone isn"t enough to warrant a 1/10 rating, so what else about this film made my blood boil?
The basic premise is sound enough, and Daniel Radcliffe isn"t quite as unbearable as I figured he might be (based on what little I have seen of him in those Potter movies) but Jason Lei Howden"s script is utterly diabolical and his direction even worse. Imagine that films can procreate: if Neveldine and Taylor"s Crank got freaky with Edgar Wright"s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the result would be a lot like Guns Akimbo, which features the worst aspects of the aforementioned movies (both of which I found fairly intolerable. There"s ADHD editing, naff camera trickery, and irritating graphics that routinely pop up on the screen-a noisy profusion of horrible modern movie-making gimmickry masquerading as style.
The acting is terrible: the cast are clearly going for excess, but nothing can excuse the godawful over-the-top performance from Ned Dennehy as tattooed bad-guy Riktor, who is more comical than comic-book. Weaving aims for badassery, but is just bad. The less said about the guy playing the bum in the alleyway the better. Still, working from Howden"s script can"t have been easy: the dialogue the actors are forced to spout is truly awful and not nearly as cool or as quotable or as funny as intended ( Never bring a spork to a gunfight. oh how I laughed. The pathetic pop culture references just add to the annoyance.
Howden actually impressed me with his previous film, the tongue-in-cheek heavy metal horror Deathgasm: it wasn"t perfect, but it was enjoyable. Guns Akimbo is about as much fun as stepping on a three pin plug barefoot.
1.5/10, rounded down to 1/10 for the trite "bullet-proof vest" plan explained to us at length in a rewound flashback, as though we"re too dumb to figure it out for ourselves.
